Understanding the Living Building Challenge provides a 6-hour in-depth introduction to the Living Building Challenge. Attendees are the green building leaders in their community: design professionals, contractors, developers, owners, government officials and employees of public agencies. In short, anyone and everyone who can impact the development of the built environment.

Learning Objectives:
- Identify the key components of the Living Building Challenge
- Discuss the rationale for restorative design principles
- Understand successful strategies for compliance with each performance area
- Recognize financial, regulatory and behavioral barriers and incentives related to high performance design
- Describe the Living Building Challenge Community resources and certification process
 
Instructors: 
Steven Borncamp, Managing Director, Living Future Europe / Bucharest, Romania  has assisted the development of seven European Green Building Councils and is the Founding President of the Romania Green Building Council.  He and his team delivered four  "Build Green Central Eastern Europe" conferences, an influential green buildings awards program, and numerous other green building initiatives including some in the areas of policy and green finance.  He is currently leading two aspiring  Living Building Challenge demonstration projects and working to encourage many more throughout Europe.  Steven is the Chairperson of the Europe Green Building Council Network’s Education Taskforce working to ensure accessible, relevant and high quality sustainable construction education is available throughout Europe and internationally. He holds a Bachelor in Economics from the University of California San Diego and a Masters in International Relations from Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
 

Adrian Pop serves as an adviser to the Romania Green Building Council for the Living Building Challenge and is currently managing two full petal-aspiring LBC building projects. As an architect at PRODID, in Bucharest, he worked on historical preservation projects under the guidance of Serban Sturdza - one of the country's most renowned architects. He was an a member of the management team for the PRISPA project, representing Romania at the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012, in Madrid, Spain and recently earned the LEED Green Associate, BREEAM International Assessor and BREEAM In-Use acreditations. Adrian holds a Masters of Architecture from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, where he is also enrolled in the PhD program, studying sustainable construction materials.
