Salmon-in-the-City highlights innovations in ecologically sustainable urban design and development that protect water quality and Puget Sound. NOAA Fisheries will present groundbreaking research regarding the impacts of urban stormwater on ocean acidification, salmon habitat and watersheds. The event will feature pioneering studio collaborations bridging architecture and ecology with leading ecologists and designers. Case studies of low impact development projects and their 5 year monitoring performance will be presented by regional scientists and low impact development experts. Salmon-Safe Puget Sound also will unveil its work with their newest certification initiatives targeting ultra-urban development as well as mass transit and other large-scale infrastructure projects such as the Sea Tac and Vancouver British Columbia Airports.
